SPRING CLEAN

They say that ‘Cleanliness is next to Godliness’. With that in mind a band of intrepid volunteers unleashed themselves onto St. Giles on Saturday 23 March in a frenzy of activity as they carried out a ‘Deep Spring Clean’ of the church.

Equipped with a variety of tools, cloths and buckets we had a go waxing wooden surfaces, cleaning the tiled floors around the Sanctuary, beating the cushions, washing windows and generally making the place cleaner & brighter.

For those with a head for heights ladders were used to dust and wash the monuments and windows in the Chancel. This involved buckets of lukewarm water and careful washing of the stained glass and the surrounds (removing lots of dirt off the stonework in the process).

One of the newest pieces of kit that made its first outing at the Deep Spring Clean was the telescopic duster, which can be extended so that we can reach the upper levels of the church. For the first time in ages we were able to clean away cobwebs and remove conspicuous amounts of dust.

Once our work was done we all enjoyed some coffee and biscuits, together with some excellent home baked cake! Everyone had a great time, and it was fun.   So in the future, if you are at a loose end next time we have a Deep Spring Clean, pop over to the church and grab a duster for a chat, some cleaning, and lots of fun (and cake!).
