REMEMBERING THE BATTLE OF THE SOMME

   
A short Act of Remembrance was held at 11:00 on 1st July 2016 to mark the 100 year anniversary of the battle of the Somme.  The service took place by the War Memorial in the churchyard of St. Giles church.

The names of those from Farnborough who are known to have fought in the battle were read out:

Lieutenant George William Morris, 2nd Lieutenant Gerard Rimington Bower, Gunner Thomas George Durrant, Rifleman Ernest Albert Colvin, Leopold Arthur Lacon Flower


The wreath was laid by Joy Robinson


       

             


 
A special poppy themed flower display was also created in the church to mark the anniversary.
